Meet our Founder
Dr Pantea Pooladvand
Hi, I’m Pantea — a researcher, university lecturer, and passionate educator with over 15 years of experience tutoring high school students.
I founded My Maths Tutor to create the kind of learning environment I wish I’d had as a student: one that is personal, inspiring, and rooted in a deep love of learning.
I was awarded my PhD in applied mathematics from The University of Sydney and have since worked as a lecturer and research fellow at The University of NSW and The University of Sydney.
My research focuses on using mathematics to tackle critical challenges in human disease, including modelling novel cancer therapies and exploring how cultural evolution influences pathogen emergence.
But alongside my research, I’ve always loved working with high school students — helping them not just succeed academically but understand and appreciate mathematics as a powerful tool for thinking.
What drives me most is connecting mathematics to real-world problems and sharing that passion with others. Through outreach programs, I aim to inspire the next generation to embrace challenging questions and contribute to solving important global issues.
“Our goal is simple: to build confidence through clarity.”

In 2018 Pantea was honoured to be selected as one of 100 mathematicians worldwide to attend the Heidelberg Laureate Forum in Germany. She has presented her work at conferences and universities around the world, including at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.
Teaching for Deep Understanding
Our sessions are more than just getting through the syllabus.
We focus on teaching for deep understanding of concepts and developing mathematical thinking that will serve students well beyond high school.
Our Team meets regularly to discuss intuitive ways of introducing concepts such as using the first principles approach.
We identify pattens in student misunderstandings and adapt our teaching to address them clearly and directly.
Students are given tools to become confident, curious and independent problem-solvers.
We love what we do, and our goal is for every student who walks through our doors to feel capable, supported and genuinely engaged in their learning.
